Radiotherapy & Radiosurgery
Stereotactic Radiotherapy / Radiosurgery is used to treat more than half of all people with cancer. Radiation therapy and stereotactic surgery at PET Technology is performed on top-of-the-line TrueBeam and Halcyon Linear accelerators in the following areas:
- Neoadjuvant therapy. Before surgery to shrink the tumor in volume;
- Adjuvant therapy. After surgery to stop the growth of cells that may have remained in the body;
- Intraoperative radiation (IORT). During surgery, so that the rays are delivered directly to the tumor, allowing an increased dose of radiation to be delivered to the tumor area with minimal harm to nearby healthy tissue.

The need for positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (PET/CT), as well as other tests, is determined by your treating oncologist

- detecting metastases and primary tumor foci;
- to determine the extent of the tumor process;
- to evaluate the effectiveness of drug therapy or surgical treatment;
- differentiation of benign and malignant tumors;
- planning radiation therapy,
- determination of the most "aggressive" tumor site for planning tumor biopsy.
A patient's stay at our center may take from 2 to 5 hours. During this time, the following diagnostic and preparation stages will take place:
- registration of medical documents at the registrar's office;
- payment
- preparation of the patient: it will be necessary to change into a change of clothes and remove all metal objects;
- intravenous injection of the radiopharmaceutical. After this, the patient should observe complete immobility;
- rest for an hour in a special room;
- PET/CT scanning.

The duration of the course of radiation therapy depends on the specifics of the disease, dose and radiation method used and takes from 1 day to 1.5 months (from 1 to 40 sessions).
It is strictly forbidden to interrupt the prescribed course of therapy on your own initiative, as such a break can lead to the emergence of tumor resistance to treatment.
In most cases, radiation therapy is well tolerated by patients and treatment is performed on an outpatient basis - hospitalization is not required.
